Uses: Sulfometuron methyl is a broad spectrum urea herbicide. It is used for the control of annual and perennial grasses and broad-leaved weeds in non crop land. It also has forestry applications where it is used to control woody tree species. It is applied either postemergent or preemergent. It works by blocking cell division in the active growing regions of stem and root tips (meristematic tissue).
